I wanted to say a quick "thank you" to the internet today, and primarily to the style blogging community out there.

Overall, I have been AMAZED at the kindness, love, and support that flows through the style blogosphere; I have met some truly lovely women whom I greatly admire, and I completely enjoy making those connections. We all know that the internet (and, obviously the world), is full of not-so-nice people, but what this community has taught me is that it is even more full of kind, creative, and loving people, from whom I draw endless inspiration and support.

So, that's all to say a great big "thank you" to those of you who follow, comment, or just stop by for .01 seconds, and to those of you who put yourselves out there on your blogs every day and face the big scary Internet with humor and grace. You all inspire me to do it, too.

Hope your week is going well, and thanks, as always, for stopping by. :)

Blogging on a Budget: August

School has started! Fall is here! My cousin got married this weekend and it was beautiful! (and I took a much-needed trip back to California to be there!) I have a million German words to memorize! August is over, and I hadn't posted Blogging on a Budget yet!

Here is my monthly round-up of where I spent my money, August Edition.

This past month, I spent:
helped along with an old gift certificate)
$0 on hair
$0 on makeup
$0 on jewelry

I have a feeling now that fall is here, I'll be spending a lot more on clothing. This CA girl doesn't have any winter boots to speak of! And on that subject, anyone have recommendations for uber-warm but still cute snow/winter boots?

Blogging on a Budget: July

One of my favorite things to see when perusing blogs is how people allocate their money; where they save, where they splurge, what sales they look for, and what they value. It taps into the same peek-inside-someone's-life part of me that absolutely loves seeing inside other people's closets, and of course, other people's blogs in general. (If you are like-minded, I highly recommend immediately checking out ClosetVisit.com to see inside some stylish closets kept by even more stylish ladies.)

In that vein, and in hope of keeping myself both frugal and honest, I've been blogging my monthly spending for the past few months. So!

Here is my breakdown for the month of July. Last month, I spent:

$76.45 on clothes
-ASOS skater dress (buy here, restocked in all sizes)
-a pair of comfy Croc flats (buy here)
  $0 on hair
$0 on makeup
$0 on jewelry

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

In Pause

Please excuse a small pause as I study my butt off for the next few days in preparation for a big final! I've been taking an intensive language course for these past 8 weeks (two semesters of Biblical Hebrew in 2 months) as the first course in my Masters' program. Now just the final stands between me and two weeks of summer break.

So I'll be absent for a few days more, and then back, refreshed and (hopefully!) victorious. :)

Wish me luck!

Blogging on a Budget: June

So it turns out a month in which one moves across the country is a month in which one spends a ton of money on things like baggage fares and rent and shipping boxes, and therefore a month in which one spends hardly any money at all on clothes. :) Here is my monthly breakdown for June.

This month, I spent:
$24.99 on clothes (a thrifted skirt and a new straw fedora)
$60 on hair (in that I got a haircut for the first time in a over a year!)
$0 on makeup
$0 on jewelry

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend!

I'm off to Farmers Markets, sunning by the river, a party with friends, and of course memorizing approximately a million new vocab words for a quiz on Friday. :)

Announced: Petite Fashion Challenge # 17

Ok, first things first, I'm in Boston!
I've been here for just over a week, and have slowly been settling in. I'm staying in a sublet for the summer in a pretty cool part of town, and attending one super-intensive summer language class. So far, so good, except my head is actually exploding with verb conjugations and the 400 new vocabulary words I've memorized in the past 6 days. Oy.

Now that I'm a bit more settled, I'll be back to regular posting asap! I'm kind of living out of my suitcase, as I have 0 hangers to my name at this point (ah, cross-country moving...), so some of my outfits might be a little strange. Also: East Coast summer. A few days ago it was in the high 50's and in a few days it'll be in the high 90's. And there will be thunderstorms. I don't understand...

On another note, Petite Fashion Challenge #17 has been announced!

This month's challenge comes from Sew Petite Gal:

The Challenge: Candy Colorized
Take a bowl full of colorful candies (M&Ms, Jolly Ranchers, jelly beans, etc.), close your eyes, and draw 2-3 pieces.  Now use those colors (+ a neutral of your choosing) to form the basis for your ensemble.

**Extra brownie points if you post more than 1 colorful ensemble or if you add a DIY element (because I love DIYs so much!) :D**

Head over to her blog to sign up!

Hope you're all having a great week!

Petite Fashion Challenge #16: Summer Wedding

This month's challenge was Summer Wedding: Create an outfit for a summer wedding (the dress code is up to you). For bonus points try to make your whole outfit, head to toe, come in under $100! (Or, exclude shoes and accessories to meet the $100 mark.)

Here is my entry:
PFC3
Dress: Anthropologie (very old, but I remember it being on super-sale for around $60) / Shoes: Target ($24.99) / Clutch: inherited from my Nana / Necklace and Earrings: gifts
PFC2 PFC1 PFC4

My outfit came in for a (estimated, due to the age of the dress) total of $85.00. Hooray for gifted bags and jewelry!

Here is the list of participants this month (in the order in which they signed up):
I hope you all enjoyed this challenge; I'm glad I got to think about my wedding look in advance, and can't wait to see what everyone else came up with!
